Sahaj Marg: Proving science behind spirituality - The Hindu

If spirituality is science, is it not necessary for it to be proved beyond doubt to be believed and accepted?

Giving a scientific spin to spirituality, Sri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) president Kamlesh D. Patel has said ‘Sahaja Yoga’ was truly scientific and appealed to people to practise it to believe it.

Citing a Harvard study, he said an electroencephalogram test conducted on some Buddhist monks, who have meditated for more than 20,000 hours, had entered the ‘delta’ stage (fourth level) of consciousness. “Sahaja Yoga aims at attaining this stage much earlier.

Let belief be based on experience,” he said. Mr. Patel also likened the present level of consciousness among humans to a thin film of water, indicating the presence of an ocean of super-consciousness above and another ocean of sub-consciousness beneath it.

Speaking to The Hindu on his visit to the Tirupati centre of SRCM on Friday, Mr. Patel (‘Kamlesh Bhai’, as he is referred to by members of the order) said SRCM firmly believed in imparting lessons in meditation free of cost, as spirituality, he maintained, could never be treated as a commodity for sale. “If God can be bought, at what cost?” he asked. “The experience cannot be marketed but only experienced, believed and appreciated when practised with due seriousness, but certainly not [when taken up] as a flippant exercise,” he said.

Inner Perfection: Kamlesh D. Patel

Inner Perfection

We are moving towards perfection. Perfection in what? Not in our outer look or fancies or other stuff. It is the perfection in our inner balance, our inner flawless character, and our manners.

Taken from the book "Designing Destiny (2nd edn., 2015)", Chapter "Our Collective Destiny", pg. 166, by Kamlesh D. Patel

Observation:
In one other talk, the SRCM President, Shri. Kamlesh D. Patel mentioned that life itself is given to us to orient towards perfection and excel in anything that we may do, and here he clarifies that perfection is about Inner Perfection and goes on to add the inherent need for Balance, Character and Behaviour in order to achieve this. The Sahaj Marg system of Raja Yoga meditation provides all the tools necessary to proceed along these lines and work tirelessly towards achieving this Inner Perfection. The spiritual Master of this system of Sahaj Marg, Shri. Kamlesh D. Patel, using the unique concept of Transmission assists the aspirants in achieving this perfection.

Let go of your Stresses: Story by Chariji Maharaj

Chariji Maharaj (of Shri Ram Chandra Mission), to emphasise the effectiveness of the Cleaning practice in Sahaj Marg system of Raja Yoga, presented this simple story for all to understand.

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: ”How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”

She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”

It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down! Thank you.

The relevance of Cleaning is known through this. If something affects us like accident or anything, if that causes some stress, anxiety etc. we can do Cleaning immediately for two minutes or so, need not wait till the evening (cleaning).

The current President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Shri Kamlesh D Patel, talks about Samskaras and Impressions and their effects in this link: http://dailysrcm.blogspot.com/2015/12/samskaras-shri-kamlesh-d-patel.html

Samskaras: Shri Kamlesh D Patel

Samskaras

How do we form samskaras? By repeated thoughts, leading to actions that become habits, and these impress upon our minds.

Taken from the book "Designing Destiny (2nd edn., 2015)", Chapter "The Formation of Impressions", pg. 77, by Kamlesh D. Patel

No Samskaras

The best of all is to lead such a life that we don’t form samskaras at all.

Taken from the book "Designing Destiny (2nd edn., 2015)", Chapter "Preventing Impressions from Forming", pg. 88, by Kamlesh D. Patel

Observation: In Sahaj Marg system of Raja Yoga meditation, emphasis is laid on

  1. Removing past Samskaras or impressions that have been accumulated, and
  2. On how to lead a life in such a way we don't form further Samskaras.

The past Samskaras are removed using the Cleaning process as explained in the Sahaj Marg and Shri Ram Chandra Mission websites, and also on this Wiki page. As mentioned in this Wiki page, the cleaning of impressions (Samskaras) is unique to this system of Sahaj Marg Raja Yoga meditation.

Soul and Knots by Shri Kamlesh D. Patel: Dr K.S. Balasubramanian (Kannan)

Here is a short writeup by Br. Sanskrit Kannan (SRCM Preceptor) on the topic of Soul and Knots as per the Sahaj Marg system of Raja Yoga meditation from Shri Ram Chandra Mission.

Dear all,

I am sure you would have read the recent Sahaj Sandesh Bulletin where Rev. Master Kamleshji explains about the Soul and thirteen knots comparing the same with the light passing through 13 lenses. A wonderful explanation.

I asked Rev. Chariji Maharaj once (in 1985): "Sir, Yoga means union. It is said in Sahaj Marg that point 2 is Atma... and the Centre is said to be in occipital centre. Does it mean then that my Soul would be taken from point 2 to the occipital centre and be United with that?"

Rev. Chariji Maharaj laughed and said: "Don't be afraid. We won't take your soul anywhere. In our scriptures and the Bhagavad Gita, it is said that the Soul is eternal, all pervasive, fixed, without movement, beginningless etc. Then how can one move it?  The knots, points etc. represent various experiences one undergoes in his spiritual pursuit. In the Airport they have radars. In Railway stations also they have the machines which would let us know where the flight or train is moving at that moment. But the vehicle is not there.Similarly in Atlas you point out a centre and say it is Madras and so on.  It is only representation. Now do you understand?  Be sure that your Soul is where it is."
